Chapter Two
Once they had arrived at Shana's house, and with their luggage put away in the rooms they would be sharing, the women took turns taking showers. After much deliberation, the girls agreed they didn't want to go out. Therefore, Shana ordered pizza. About an hour later they were all spread out around the dining room table eating pizza and drinking wine.
Reaching for her laptop she left sitting next to her, Vanessa booted it up.
Grabbing another slice from the open box sitting in the middle of the table, Emily watched her friend with curiosity. "What are you doing, Van?"
"I thought some music from our boys while we eat is in order."
Moving the laptop to the corner of the table where everyone could see clearly, Vanessa hit the play button. A minute later Bon Jovi appeared on the screen.
With smiles on their faces the girls continued to eat while watching the band perform "Lay Your Hands On Me" from a concert in London.
Glancing around the table, Sara couldn't contain her laughter as she stared at the expressions on each of their faces as they eyed the band. "What is so funny?"Shana inquired, confused at her friends actions.
Pointing to the computer, Sara took a breath to stop her giggling. "If they only knew the stories we write about them. They would run for the hills." Abbie and Emily joined in her laughter.
Shana shook her head, laughter ringing in her voice. "True. I can picture the horrified look on each of their faces when they read your stories. Mine are clean."
"That's because you won't let us write a dirty sex scene for you." Abbie pointed out. No matter how many times they tried, Shana wouldn't budge.
Feeling like she had to defend herself, Shana shrugged her shoulders. "I don't like writing stuff like that."
Putting her arm around Shana's shoulder, Emily hugged her. "You know we are only teasing you. We love your story just the way it is." Looking at the other three, Emily nodded. "Right, girls?"
They are shook their heads in agreement.
"Sorry, I don't mean to get so defensive."
"It's fine." Vanessa assured her.
They sat at the dining room table long after the food and wine were gone just watching video after video. Looking up at the clock, Abbie had to blink twice to make sure she was seeing the correct time. "Uh, ladies, I hate to break up our fun but it's after two in the morning. "
Yawning, Emily stared at the clock on the wall. " No wonder my eyes are going crossed eyed. I have been up for over twenty three hours."
With everyone pitching in the kitchen was back to rights in no time. Bidding each other goodnight they headed off to their respective rooms.
Everyone slept in the next morning. Jet lag was playing with everyone except Shana. Finally by late morning everybody was up. Since they had stayed up so late the night before, no one was in any hurry to venture out of the house yet. Early afternoon everyone was ready to tackle the outdoors. Due to it being an usually warm day Shana decided instead of using the van she had rented, she had something else in mind. Backing her Dodge Charger convertible out of the garage she waited for her friends to get in.
"Wow!" Vanessa exclaimed, her fingers caressing the car door.
"Sexy car, girl." Abbie said, climbing into the back seat behind Shana.
Also climbing into the back seat was Emily, who chose to sit in the middle between Abbie and Sara.
"Alright, ladies, it is road trip time. Where do you want to go?"Shana smirked, she knew Damn well what their answer was going to be. They didn't disappoint.
"JERSEY, BABY." They yelled.
Pulling out of the driveway, they were off.
Three and a half hours later they arrived in Rumson,New Jersey. Since no one had eaten anything before they left, the girls decided to stop and grab a bite to eat. Finding a restaurant they all agreed upon was not easy but the rumblings in their tummies helped them agree on one. Finished with their late brunch they headed back out on the road. Driving around town they did a little sightseeing and some souvenir shopping. Since this was the first time they were touring Rumson together they gathered their courage and embarked on a quest to find Jon Bon Jovi ' s house. After driving around endlessly for hours up and down different streets searching for the rock stars house. They gave up.
"With our luck he wouldn't be home anyway." Grumbled Emily.
Shoulder bumping her friend, Abbie sighed. "You're probably right. But look at it this way. It's his loss."
The girls agreed it was definitely the rockers loss.
Stopped at a traffic light, Shana turned the volume on the radio up as "We Are the Champions" blared through the speakers. Wrapping an arm round Abbie and Sara's shoulders, Emily swayed back and forth as they all sang as loud as they could. People walking down the street stopped and stared at the five crazy women, smiled at them, then continued on their way. The song switched to "Highway to Hell" the girls sang even louder.
A black Escalade pulled up beside the women. The windows were dark so no one could see inside, but the two male occupants in the backseat could see them clearly. Leaning against the door, they were able to observe the women next to them without being noticed. It was obvious to the men in the SUV that the girls were having fun. Even the driver and the man in the passenger seat were enjoying the free show.
When the light changed, Shana pulled forward completely unaware of the black SUV that behind them. Sitting back, Abbie watched her friends laughing and teasing each other. This is exactly what she needed. Time with her girls laughing and having fun. There wasn't enough money or medicine in the world that could make her feel like she did when she had her girls by her side.
Staring at the traffic passing them by, Sara slapped her hand on the back of Vanessa's seat. "Turn it up. I love this song!"
"Hell yeah!" Vanessa screamed, turning the volume up.
As they drove singing "Shot in the Dark" the SUV trailed behind them.
"Are you sure about this, boss? I don't want to scare them." Brent wanted to be sure his boss wanted him to follow the car.
"Yeah, I'm sure." Leaning back into the leather interior, the blonde man slid his sunglasses down the bridge of his nose. "Can you try and get on the side of them again."
The dark haired man watched his best friend, disbelieving what he was hearing. "Man, what are you doing? You know we don't have time to follow a bunch of women around town. We have a meeting in the city."
Raising a blonde eyebrow, the blonde smiled. "Since when don't you have time for a pretty lady?"
The dark haired man snickered. "I always have time for a pretty lady, but this is crazy. This is borderline stalking, my friend."
"Not like we haven't been followed before." Sliding the sunglasses back over his eyes. "Humor me for a bit."
Traffic was picking up so it took the driver some time to get on the side of the car again. Now they were on the passenger side. Bending forward so he could see a little btter, the dark haired man nodded his head. "I hate to admit it, but they are cute."
Laughing at his friend's admittance, he blonde agreed. "Yes they are."
Watching as the car took the same exit as them, the men smiled. "Hmm, looks like we are all heading in the same direction."
Even with rush hour traffic, Brent was able to keep up with the girls.
Through the entire drive back not once did the girls notice they were being followed. They were having way too much fun singing along with the radio and each other.
When the convertible took the next exit off, the men in the black Escalade gave a heavy sigh. "Oh well. It was fun while it lasted."
Stepping inside the glass building, the dark haired man blew out a breath. "We made it with minutes to spare."
Laughing, the blonde slapped his friend on the back. "Come on, let's get this shit over with. I need a drink. "
